Believed to have been discovered as early 1500 B.C. on the island Zabargad (now St. John's Island) in the Egyptian Red Sea, peridots were gathered by those living on the island in service of the Pharaoh. Legend has it that islanders searched for the gemstone during the cover of night because the stone's glow made it easier to spot, giving it the nickname 'the gem of the sun.'

Featuring the Deborah Pagani Honey Ring. Read more on Veranda.
